Louis C.K. has been immortalized in Cheeto form

Intrepid Baltimore-based artist Katie Mazikins, working in the unheralded “Cheetos” medium, has fashioned a portrait of comedian/Renaissance misanthrope Louis C.K. Though this might be considered ridiculous by the art-world standards of 2013, at some point in the not-too-distant future, it may very well be looked upon with the same reverence as the Sistine Chapel ceiling or that one Banksy one with the cop and the balloons or whatever. In other words, get into Cheeto art now, so you can say you were hip to it way back then. [h/t to Uproxx] - read more on

Pre-Star Wars, Six Million Dollar Man and Bionic Woman were beacons for young nerds

Confession...I had the 6 million dollar man action figure!

Sometimes a single TV episode can exemplify the spirit of its time and the properties that make television a unique medium. A Very Special Episode presents The A.V. Club’s survey of TV at its most distinctive.
Make no mistake: Even in 1976, we had the technology. We had smart, ambitious fantasy writers, brilliant special-effects artists, and millions of potential fans, all hungry for stories about heroic adventurers wielding swords, ray guns, and/or superpowers. So why weren’t our movies and TV shows more awesome? - Click here to read more on

Dark Rye Partnership

Hi all,

We just launched our latest issue of Dark Rye, "Partnership",  In this issues we tell wonderful stories about wine production, cheese making and Japanese desserts.  Devon Broglie adds some great wine recommendations and Cathy Strange offers some insights into  beer and cheese pairings. Along with using TMs, we highlight two vendors , one is a dessert company out of New York called Kyotofu and the other is a dairy/cheese producer run by two brothers (I couldn't resist) called Jasper Hill.

Archi's Acres

We are happy to announce Southern Pacific’s most recent Local Producer Loan recipient,Archi’s Acres!  Located in Escondido, CA, Archi’s Acres grows living basil in water and energy efficient hydroponic greenhouses.  They currently sell their living basil to the Hillcrest, La Jolla, Encinitas, Jamboree and Laguna Niguel stores, but the proceeds from this loan will help them to expand to the entire SoPac region.  Specifically, the funds will be used to purchase hydroponic equipment for use in a brand new greenhouse.
Started in 2005 by Colin and Karen Archipley, the couple switched their growing methods to hydroponic greenhouses in 2006. Hydroponics is a form of crop production which saves up to 90% more water than conventional crop production.  Growing in greenhouses also gives Archi’s Acres the capability to grow living basil year round.  Additionally Colin, after coming home from a third Iraq deployment with the Marines, created Veterans Sustainable Agriculture Training with his wife. VSAT is a vocational/ entrepreneurial program for transitioning military veterans into agriculture. Thus far, Archi’s Acres has trained over 160 veterans on their farm. To learn more, watch this video.

Since loan recipients have a unique relationship with Whole Foods Market, we’d really appreciate you keeping Archi’s Acres in mind for things like in-store marketing, promotions, demos, Facebook and twitter announcements, press releases and media inquiries, etc.  Please share this information with your team members and guests! Let me know if you need contact information in order to set something up in your store.  Also, please contact Dwight Detter or Erin Harper  if at any time you are considering discontinuing or significantly decreasing your purchase of this product.
